Moving wind turbine components

Flender, operating within Siemens' energy division, is engaged in the manufacturing of gearboxes, generators, and other components for wind turbines. In Flender's factories, these components are frequently moved using inflexible overhead cranes. Therefore, Flender decided to acquire a mobile transport machine during the construction of a new factory.

The Challenge

Designing a transport machine for precisely moving wind turbine components to all areas on the factory floor. It's crucial that the pallet truck can maneuver in small spaces, and the operator maintains a clear overview while driving.

The Solution

A pallet truck with 3.5-meter forks and a lifting capacity of 16.5 tons. The EPS165 features a parallel lifting system, ensuring that the load remains horizontal relative to the wheelbase and track. With a remote radio control, the machine can be operated from a distance with precision down to the millimeter.

Specific design

This pallet truck is specifically designed for moving large and heavy wind turbine components. With a parallel lifting system, a riding platform for the operator, and cameras integrated into the frame, it is a unique and innovative means of transportation that can be controlled remotely via radio.

Remotely controllable

For precision work during the placement of components, the truck can be controlled with a remote radio control. This allows the operator to safely and precisely control the machine down to the millimeter, which is useful when maneuvering in confined spaces.
